Dr. Azizur Rahman Mallick

Dr. Azizur Rahman Mallick (AR Mallick) is the first and founding Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University. He is a prominent educationist and historian of Bangladesh. He also served as the first technocrat finance minister of the Bangladesh government in the financial year 1974-75.

Azizur Rahman Mallick was born on 31st December 1918 in Rajapur village of Dhamrai police station in Dhaka district.

In 1941, he joined Dhaka University as a lecturer in the Department of History. Later joined Rajshahi University. After that, he went to London for higher education, from where he returned and joined Rajshahi University as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

In 1965 Mr. Mallick was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University. Chittagong University was started in 1966 under his leadership. Chittagong University Administrative Building was named AR Mallick Building in his memory.

This great educationist breathed his last on February 4, 1997. He was buried at Mirpur Shaheed Intellectual Cemetery in Dhaka.
